This is the first of a collection of designs for children which I've developed into patterns for you to sew at home.
The Felicity’s Formal Frock is reminiscent of a time when little girls (and boys) were expected to dress up when going out to dinner with their parents, and then had to have their fine clothes hidden behind huge linen napkins as protection against the inevitable pieces of dropped food and dripping gravy!
This is a basic a-line dress with an inverted box pleat running down from the neckline at centre front all the way to the hem. It has slightly puffed half-length sleeves with gartered hems and an optional lace trim around the neckline.
The pattern is written for lush cloths like corduroy and velveteen, but will certainly suit lighter-weight cloths like cotton, linen, raw silk and taffeta. Make it up in a variety of materials and trimmings for both day and evening wear.
Pattern instructions include how to adjust the pattern for fit in the depth of scye, sleeve and shoulder lengths.
The pattern DOES NOT include any seam allowances which makes it much easier for you to adjust measurements on the pattern before cutting it out. You also get to use your own preferred seam allowances (although recommended seam allowances are provided in the instructions).
